Sam Gaer is Chief Investment Officer of the Directional Strategy at Monarq Asset Management, where he oversees discretionary and systematic strategies across digital assets. Prior to Monarq, he was Co-Portfolio Manager at BlockTower Capital, managing the firm’s flagship fund. Earlier, Sam founded Katana Financial, a quantitative hedge fund that became one of the world’s largest VIX traders and was among the first market makers for CME Bitcoin and Ethereum futures. He also held senior leadership roles at NYMEX including CIO, and CEO of NYMEX Europe, where he led the firm’s $9 billion merger with CME, and later served as CIO at FINRA. Sam holds a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School.
