Garrett Gilbertson is the Founder and Managing Partner of SUM Ventures (SUM.VC), an early-stage venture capital firm investing across FinTech, AI, PropTech, aerospace and defense, and emerging technologies. Known for a hands-on, conviction-driven approach, Garrett partners with founders at the earliest stages and scales ownership as companies execute.

Garrett also serves as Chairman of Band of Angels Los Angeles, one of the most active angel networks in the country. He currently sits on the boards of UNest, Brius, Purlin, Oze, and ClearClub, and serves as a board observer at DressX and Fantasy Life. Before founding SUM Ventures, Garrett led investments for family offices, angel groups, and corporate venture funds. He began his career as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, including a deployment to Afghanistan.

Garrett is a recipient of the LAVA Angel Investor of the Year Award and has been recognized by The M&A Advisor as an Emerging Leader. He holds a B.S. in Management from the United States Air Force Academy and an M.S. from Pepperdine University, where he received the George Award as Outstanding Student in Entrepreneurship. He is also a graduate of Harvard Business School's Executive Program in Venture Capital and Private Equity.
