E.J. Kavounas is an executive with over two decades of experience in entertainment finance, investment banking, and film production. Over the course of his career, he has closed more than $10 billion in transactions. He is currently a Partner at Iota Capital, a Los Angeles-based financier of film and media projects, and a Co-Founder of Distortion Field Studio, a talent management and production company representing AI-enabled filmmakers.
Previously, E.J. served as a Managing Director at Credit Suisse in Los Angeles, where he led the private placement group. His clients have included major entertainment companies such as Disney, Universal, and RealD. He has financed feature films including Empire State (starring Dwayne Johnson) and Escape Plan (starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger), and produced Hero Mode, starring Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino and Sean Astin.
He holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BA from Middlebury College. In addition to his professional work, he serves as an advisor to Caltech Connection, supporting community college students through mentorship opportunities with Caltech graduate students.
